Any student of sculpture must first familiarise themselves with the shape and proportion, assembling and articulation of the bones of the human body Almost every sculptor has their own way of applying the clay , there is no rule but each to their own.Of course the only thing that matters is the ultimate result

Here I will take you through the stages of a clay master model, from a piece of clay to the finished figurine. To make a larger statue requires much more work and time, but the process is basically more or less the same. I will update this page as often as I can..my production time for my work is precious at the moment.

Production usually begins by making sketches.After deciding upon this and a size for the piece I work quickly by building up the form with a few bits of clay put together to form the basic shape, this one being a young boy approximately 8" high. I never use an armature for anything this small, so this is just clay on a board...prior to this point I had first made a bare body.
If this was to be a life-size this stage would be referred to as the "sketch model".
