Thankyou for the  info sent in by Bev... Hi There! Yesterday I bought a Nutbrown elephant pie funnel from a local market in Nelson, New Zealand for NZ$40.  I bought it because my mother always had one when we were kids and she had given it away, I had never even seen one again until yesterday.  When I bought it home I decided to see what I could find out about it on the internet.  You may be interested to know that the Reg no. on my elephant is clearly 860928.  I am assuming that the number on your elephant is not so easy to read and thought that this might be of some help.  By the way it is very sunny here today! Bev

Re the correspondence on the Nutbrown Elephant. It is actually a Grimwade Registered Design from 2nd December 1949. The number is stamped incorrectly and should be Rd No 860528
Have you got any to show here?

Dsc00115.jpg (15557 bytes)Nutbrown Elephant Pie Funnel measuring 3.5 inches high. Cute and very collectable. Undamaged and has a reg number 86092?8 .believed to be  from 1940 and was made here in England

This picture of a pie funnel was sent in by Joan & John, Australia

roespatent.jpg (1836 bytes)It may well be Australian, as there is the name Rosebut on the centre of the motif, and there is a place called Rosebud in Victoria, but we have been unable to trace such a pottery there. The porcelain is very hard, and I would say it is English.  It is in lovely condition, and certainly original.
any information as to origin please ??
Joan & John McCulloch jmcculloch@vision.net.au

Beware of people passing pie birds as "old"

I recently came across this!!
I have pasted this as it is :

"The Red Riding Hoods Wolf"
was first born in 1996
I have the original sketches to prove. I know exactly how many are around and who they were sold to!!
If you come across any of my designs or may think the said piece mine please feel free to ask me first to verify the date of production. I do keep records.

I wish it be known that

"The Red Riding Hoods Wolf" is my creation and is still in production today,

pb100h.jpg (8836 bytes)

right it is rare.... because not alot have been made to date, but it certainly is not 1930s.!!
